Dana Tai Soon Burgess & Co. On Tour

Dana Tai Soon Burgess & Co.'s highly acclaimed international touring program focuses on intercultural dialogue through modern dance. Recent tours include Lima, Arequipa and Trujillo-Peru, Guayaquil, Quito and Manta-Ecuador, and Riga-Latvia. Especially effective for its international programming is the international origins of the company's dancers and its artistic director: family backgrounds from Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Columbia, Peru, Ireland, and Scotland among others.

The purpose of the company's 2007 international tour is twofold. “At its most basic level, we hope to create venues in which ideas and dance techniques can be freely shared and explored,” says Dana Tai Soon Burgess, the founder and artistic director of DTSB&Co. “More importantly, however, we're aiming to open a dialogue with students and audiences in which cultural similarities can be discovered and differences respected.” The touring repertoire focuses on personal stories, geographic inspiration and universal emotional journeys retold
with abstraction through modern dance. Many of the company's works were commissioned by the Kennedy Center and they continue to receive critical acclaim nationally and internationally. Although English is the company's language of choice, workshops may be taught in 6 languages.

In 2007, Dana Tai Soon Burgess & Co. toured to the major Egyptian cities of Alexandria and Cairo. and Chennai, India. In 2008 the company toured to Colima and Guadalajara, Mexico.
